Skydiving, trapeze lessons and bumper cars at sea? For serious!?!

All I can say is “WOW”… Quantum of the Seas is the biggest, baddest ship of them all! And here’s why….

1.) Robotic Bar: …need I say more? You enter your order on an ipad (extensive menu is a given)… and a few minutes later, 2 gigantic MakrShakr bots make your drink to perfection.

I must say, they do draw a crowd, so we had to wait about 15 – 20 minutes for our drinks, but we hardly noticed the wait as we watch these behemoth arms shake and mix drinks and then casually slide them down the table.

2.) WOWBand: Royal Caribbean has outfitted the Quantum class ships with RFID bracelets which are linked to you SeaPass account and holds all of your information related to your cruise vacation such as your stateroom information, dining reservations and more. How does it work, your band can be swiped anywhere (bar, front desk, spa, dining, etc) to update reservations, add purchases or check you into boat drill! These complimentary waterproof bracelets are found in your room upon check in and act as your ship’s room key card and charge card. image (photo compliments of Royal Caribbean) 3.) SeaPlex: This is basically where I spent most of my time onboard… whether roller skating, “gently” nudging colleagues during bumper cars, or ripping my pants on a high flying trapeze lesson. These activities are all complimentary aboard the Quantum of the Seas. During the day, the SeaPlex also acts as a basketball court and indoor soccer field. image image image

4.) Dynamic Dining: Quantum of the Seas nails it! I’m not sure what I was expecting with the dynamic dining when I first boarded, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Dynamic Dining divides up your normal 2-3 story large dining room into 5 smaller complimentary dining room options which give you an intimate dining experience with no assigned seats, no set dinner times and no formal dress code requirements. Although there are no set dining times, I would HIGHLY recommend making reservations prior to boarding to make sure you get the time you prefer. You can also make reservations with your snazzy WOWband onboard. The 5 main complimentary restaurants feature various dining delicacies: Silk (Asian), American Icon Grille (American), Chic (Contemporary), The Grande Restaurant (French), Coastal Kitchen (Mediterranean). There are also some AMAZING specialty restaurants. The one that deserves the most attention is Wonderland. From the moment you sit down, you are taken on a whimsical tour. Your menu is a blank page, until you wet it with a paintbrush to make the words appear… image

and here is a look at the table setting in the luxurious rabbit hole…. image

As you can see, there is one main “Mad Hatter’s” seat… so you will need to flip a coin for that throne. The Wonderland specialty dining is $45 per person, but is well worth the price considering the beautifully works of gastronomical art on your plate. Here is a photo compliments of Royal Caribbean. I love the play on the Lewis Carroll story! image
5.) Mamma Mia: FULL LENGTH BROADWAY SHOWS! As a broadway buff, I can’t tell you how excited I was to see a full length show on board! Full sets, orchestra, costumes and songs. Royal Caribbean prides itself for not cutting a single line out of the original playbook! 6.) Two70: Mind… blown… this beautiful lounge area located in the aft end of the ship gives a floor to ceiling view of the ocean by day and then transforms into a panoramic background for the StarWater show. StarWater is a show which combines live aerial stunts, video mapping and robotic technology into one awe-inspiring visual production featuring a talented cast of singers and dancers that leave you amazed. image image
Mind you… the background you see used to be completely transparent during the day for a full view of the ocean. image A glimpse of Two70 during the day… image
7.) Skydiving at Sea: RipCord features a simulated sky diving activity while at sea. Get zipped and suited up behind the SeaPlex on the sports deck where you will also find a rock climbing wall and the signature FlowRider surf simulator. So many exciting sports to choose from! Here is a photo of the FlowRider with the RipCord capsule in the background. image
8.) North Star: As if this ship didn’t offer enough cool activities… another awesome feature is the North Star. This is a capsule which detaches and swivels out to sea for a full 360 view of the ocean. You can also book a private session with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries if you are looking for a romantic way to propose! In fact, there are many cool and innovative ways to propose on this ship! Just sayin’!!! Here is a photo of the North Star docked above the Sky Bar. image
The Quantum of the Seas sails out of Bayonne, NJ until May 2015 and then she will be deployed to China. However, her identical sister ship, Anthem of the Seas comes out later in 2015 and will resume the Caribbean itineraries from Bayonne.
